Every day without food is another day of suffering for orphaned and helpless starving children. Apart from poverty itself, such children can suffer emotional trauma, reduced educational opportunities, and in some cases increased vulnerability to exploitation and also social isolation. Later on in life, this can result in reduced job opportunities, further perpetuating the cycle of poverty. In some cases, children’s faith is also at risk, due to missionary activity in the guise of meal provision.

One of the best deeds is feeding the hungry, and caring for the orphans and poor.

“And they feed, out of love for Him, the poor, the orphan and the captive.” (Qur’an 76:8)

Prophet Muhammad, upon whim be peace and blessings said, “The best of you are those who feed others.” (Musnad Ahmed 23926)

He, peace and blessings be upon him, also said, “I and the one who cares for an orphan will be in paradise like this.” and he held his two fingers together. (Bukhari 6005)
