In Uganda, female-headed households experience higher rates of multidimensional poverty (49%) compared to male-headed households (39%).
Women constitute 80% of small-scale subsistence farmers in Uganda, making them particularly vulnerable to food insecurity
On average, Ugandan women spend 9 hours daily on domestic tasks, including preparing food, fetching water and firewood, and caring for family members.

Giving Livelihood opportunities
n the heart of Mbale District, Uganda, countless Muslim mothers are struggling to survive each day. Living in extreme poverty, many are single parents raising young children without any stable source of income. Their daily reality includes going to bed hungry, uncertain how they’ll feed their families the next day.
Mission Salaam is stepping in to change that.
We are building self-sustaining shops for these mothers—small, secure spaces where they can start their own businesses and earn a dignified income. These shops offer more than just financial opportunity—they provide hope, stability, and a path to independence.
In Uganda, women—especially Muslim mothers—face huge barriers to employment. Many are uneducated, widowed, or abandoned, with no safety net. By giving them a shop stocked with essential items, we’re enabling them to support their families with dignity.
These shops become lifelines, allowing mothers to feed their children, pay for school fees, and rebuild their lives.
The total cost to build and equip one shop is just £700. This includes:
A fully constructed, lockable shop unit
Initial stock (food items, clothing, or essentials depending on local need)
Basic training and ongoing support
Every donation brings us closer to empowering another mother in need. Whether you contribute the full amount for one shop or a portion, you’re investing in a future where these women can stand on their own feet.
Give a mother a shop. Give a family a future.
